The Man Who Played Violin in a Subway Reading Questions

In a commonplace environment at an unexpected hour, I feel like we perceive beauty as something that you can relate to or as something that attracts attention. I think this for several different reasons. One of them being that in the article that I just read, the only people who noticed Bell were the people who recognized him or were past violinists that were able to connect with hime and who realized that the pieces Bell were playing were really good. A reason why I think we may perceive beauty as something that attracts attention is because the more people there are watching something, it will make other passerbyers wonder what the crowd is for. For example in the article, it said that the Washington Post was at first worried about how if a group started to gather by Bell, then more and more people would clump up, and then before they knew it, there would be huge traffic jams, and the police would be called and all that sort of stuff. Another example is when I was in Burlington, Vermont walking along a Galleria type area. Just after we got ice cream, there was a hug crowd down the street. It made us curious, so we went do there to check it out. It turns out that it was two guys who were doing crazy flips and stuff and throwing knives and stuff like that. When you think about knife throwing, beauty doesn't come to mind, but because a huge crowd was there, the curiosity of people around it will make it beauty.

I do not think that we stop to appreciate beauty enough. I think that this is because these days, there are so many distractions that we do not stop and think about how truly amazing or inspiring something is. An example of this is a kid walking through a museum on his phone or something like that. I also think that time is a huge reason as to why we do not perceive beauty enough. In the article that we read, a person who had a break from work stopped and listened to Bell play. However, the other people were so busy, that they did not even pause, much less look, to admire Bell and the beauty in his music.

I think that it is definitely possible to recognize the talent in an unexpected context. That is because I think that their are enough creative and imaginable minds in our world who would recognize talent without context. I also think that people in our world can make connections pretty easily.

I think that if we can't even stop to notice one of the best musicians in the world playing one of the best pieces ever written, then I think that we are missing a lot of other things. For all we know, we could be missing the solution to world hunger, or pollution, or reversing global warming. I also think that if we all learned to notice things like Bell and his music than we would all be a lot more appreciative about stuff in our world.

Long Response:

1. Raper Kanye West just had a big realization in his life. He realized that God had been calling him for a long time. He points back to the time when God stayed with him while he was in the hospital and during hard times. He is now speaking at churches and giving concerts. He wants people to spend every single millisecond in service to God.
2.Kanye West said that his lowest point was when he was hospitalized after having a mental breakdown.
3.I have not listened to any songs on the "Jesus is King". I may have, but probably didn't know it.
4. I don't know if I would like the songs. That is because I usually don't like rap.
5.During his speech at the mega-church, Kanye West talked about what he calls streams of consciousness. Some of those include going to church as a kid, religion, the devil , and the peril of fame and money.
6.I do not know who Joel Esteen is.
7. I do believe and hope that Kanye West has found Jesus and is a changed man. That is because I do not think that he would make it up and be going around and speaking at different churches if he didn't find Jesus".

The Golden Voice

The Golden Voice

Everything changes for Ted Williams after a video of him talking in his announcer voice went viral. He received a bunch of interest from different companies for the use of his skilled voice. However, not everything for Ted since the video has been released had gone smooth.

He had problems with staying sober and had to go into rehab. This put a lot of his business on hold and even some companies lost interest in him. Ted even apologized after he admitted to lying to Dr. Phil on his show. However, once Williams completed rehab, things started to look up for him.

He released his own book about his long journey, which was a huge success. Williams then started to get more job opportunities. He even got a deal with Pepsi. In 2015, Williams said that he was gonna run for president. However, he changed his mind, because he wanted to inspire and encourage other people. He has also done a lot of charity work. His dream was to give back to the homeless community. Later on, Williams even begin working on the same radio station that he worked on all those years ago before he took a break.

Feature Writing Preview

Feature Writing Preview

1. The difference between a hard news lead and the one I read above is that a hard news lead is suppose to really hook the reader, while the one I read above was only two words long and was suppose to make the reader wonder and want to find out what that voice sounds like.

2. I learned the who, what, where, when, why, and how of the story in the second paragraph of the story.

3. Yes, there are quotes in the story.

4.The quotes were not arranged in the quote-transition style that we used in news writing.

5. Ted Williams, people who know Ted, and companies that were trying to get a hold of Ted were the people that were quoted in the story.

6. In my opinion, the first quote (paragraph 6) is the most powerful in the story. That is because I feel like it really hooked the reader onto the story, and made them want to hear Ted Williams' voice even more.

7.The story is 33 paragraphs long.

8. The story is 765 words long.

9. It being so short and to the point is the significance of the lead and final paragraphs of the story. Its also significant because it is pretty much the same thing.

10. I think that the writer did that with the lead and the final paragraph in order to make the reader want to find out what that voice means and what it sounds like.

11. I think that the story was really interesting to read. That is because the entire time, I was trying to picture what the voice sounded like.

12. After I read the story, but before I watched the video, I really wanted to hear the voice. That is because the writer did a really good job of building it up with the quotes that he used and all of the description.

13. Satisfaction and amazement was the impact that the video had on me after I watched it right after reading the story.

14. I think that the story would of lost the impact without the video. That is because with the video, the voice is kind of memorable, while as if you hadn't watched the video, then you would of probably have forgotten about it.

15. The writer did try to come up with a way for you to hear the voice without really hearing it.

16. The writer did this when he included the quotes of Ted Williams talking in the voice. I don't think that the writer wanted to give away too much of what the voice sounded like though, because one of the points of the story is to try and get the reader to go and watch the video.
